I. General Thermodynamic Treatment of Chemical Equilibrium

چکیده
Consider an equilibrium reaction aA+ bB ⇀↽ cC+ dD We do not specify any phases, as we will treat the reaction generally using activities. An equilibrium reaction is one that can proceed in both directions, as indicated by the ⇀↽ symbol replacing the usual −→ in the chemical equation. Recall that the molar free energy ∆Ḡj for compound j in the reaction in terms of its activity aj as ∆Ḡ = ∆Ḡ◦ +RT ln aj (1) where ∆Ḡ◦ is the molar Gibbs free energy at a reference state, taken to be the standard state. Now the change in the Gibbs free energy of the reaction is ∆rG = c∆ḠC + d∆ḠD − a∆ḠA − b∆ḠB

Observations of Sludge Formation in Group I Base Stock for Lubricants and Thermodynamic Modeling with the SAFT Equation of State
Varnish and sludge formation are considered as one of the most common problems in lubrication and hydraulic systems. In order to simulate the condition of sludge formation, base stock lubricant (Group 1 API) has been selected and exposed to heat in a laboratory setup. Sludge formation process accelerated in the laboratory scale and solid liquid equilibrium data were extracted. Then solid-liquid...
متن کاملMethanol-to-Hydrocarbons Product Distribution over SAPO-34 and ZSM-5 Catalysts: The applicability of Thermodynamic Equilibrium and Anderson-Schulz-Flory Distribution
The product distribution of methanol to hydrocarbons conversion over SAPO-34 and ZSM-5 catalysts was studied using thermodynamic equilibrium and Anderson-Schulz-Flory (ASF) distributions. The equilibrium compositions were calculated using constrained Gibbs free energy minimization. The effect of catalyst type was considered by setting upper limits to product carbon number due to sh...

متن کاملLiquid-Liquid Equilibrium for the Ternary Systems of Solvent+ m/o/p-Cresol+Water: Thermodynamic Modeling
In this study, NRTL and UNIQUAC thermodynamic models were used to predict the composition of ternary mixtures of solvents+ m/o/p-cresol+ water in organic and aqueous phases. Various solvents are used for the separation of cresols from water. In this study, methyl propyl ketone, methyl isopropyl ketone, methyl butyl ketone, and methyl isobutyl ketone solvents were investigated. Intermolecular in...
متن کاملOn Thermodynamics of Evaporation Processes in Nonequilibrium Systems
Thermodynamic theory of phase equilibrium is the main base for the development of the methods of fluid mixtures separation. Thermodynamic approach has a lot of advantages in the practical application when conditions of separation processes are close to the equilibrium. For nonequilibrium processes these advantages fail and one should use another methods including empirical relationships and mod...
